ABOUT THE EVENT

NEXT STEP: Emerging Leaders Summit is designed to help cultivate, connect, engage and empower South Dakota’s future bank leaders. This event will encourage emerging bank leaders to find and express their voices within their organizations, communities and the banking industry and provide opportunities to network and exchange ideas with other industry professionals. It will also increase emerging bank leaders’ knowledge of topics of interest to the banking industry and promote involvement and advocacy.

1:25 p.m. - Coach John 'Stig' Stiegelmeier | South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD - "Leadership Lessons I Learned On and Off the Football Field" - Coach Stig knows what it takes to inspire a team. Whether it’s on or off the football field, Stig’s tenure as the winningest football coach in SDSU history will give attendees lessons and advice to ponder life’s decisions when exploring how their choices impact their journey to successful, meaningful and legendary leadership.

2:15 p.m. - Professor Mike Allgrunn | University of South Dakota, Vermillion, SD - "Today's Economic Forecast" - In today's rapidly evolving financial landscape, accurate economic forecasting is a cornerstone of effective decision-making for banks and financial institutions. This session is your gateway to understanding the tools, methodologies, and insights that will empower you to make informed choices and seize opportunities amidst uncertainty.

5:15 p.m. - (OPTIONAL) Tour of Dakota Spirits Distillery – Flight 1 (Limited to 22 people) | 3601 Airport Rd, Pierre, SD - Dakota Spirits Distillery, South Dakota’s first legal distillery, is a small family run artisan distillery located on a plateau a couple of miles north of the Missouri River in Pierre, South Dakota. Founded and operated by the Rounds family, they work with local products to produce high quality spirits. Join us in the Tasting Room for a flight of premium vodka, whiskey and rum, with a select menu available for event attendees only. Must be 21 and older to participate. Please be responsible. Hand-Crafted Spirits will be available for purchase.

6:00 p.m. - (OPTIONAL) Tour of Dakota Spirits Distillery – Flight 2 (Limited to 22 people) 

6:00 p.m. - (OPTIONAL) Historical Tour of Cedar Hill Cemetery in Fort Pierre (Limited to 25 people) - Location: Section 4, SE corner of the NW 1/4 and SW corner of NE 1/4 of Township 4 Range 31 East of the Black Hills Meridian in Stanley County, SD. Directions: From City of Fort Pierre, for a total of about 4 miles, take US 83 west one block on W 2nd then right on N 2nd, follow road uphill about 1 mile, turn left on Cedar Hill Road, follow road to cemetery gate (end of road) about 2 miles. Situated on a hill overlooking the town of Fort Pierre and the Missouri River is historic Cedar Hill Cemetery. The cemetery is more than just a historic landmark. It offers visitors an opportunity to enjoy the view of the Missouri River and a bustling community from a bird’s-eye view. Join us for a guided tour through one of South Dakota’s oldest historical cemeteries.

11:10 a.m. - John Streff | Vantage Point Solutions, Mitchell, SD - "Embracing the Future: How Artificial Intelligence Will Impact the Banking Industry" - Artificial Intelligence (AI) occupies many headlines in the news and especially in tech journals.  In many ways, this technology is still in its exploration states as the world seeks to define its role and use cases.  Because of its complexity, many people misunderstand AI and are overwhelmed as to its potential applications.  In this presentation, Vantage Point Solutions (VPS) discusses the nature of AI, its relevance to the Banking industry, and some exciting use cases.
