Operational Efficiency Self-Assessment

Trent Fleming, Trent Fleming Consulting, Germantown, Tenn. - Whether recognized or not, productivity—or the lack thereof—continues to impact bank operations. This session is designed to address key ways that managers can assess and improve the operations of their departments, using techniques that industry experts apply when performing operational efficiency studies. Key areas to be addressed include staffing, technology utilization, planning efforts and measurement/reporting issues. Participants will leave with the tools to evaluate and improve productivity. For more than 35 years, Fleming has helped hundreds of banks make wise strategic decisions about the optimum use of their management and technology resources.

Business Continuity and FFIEC Appendix J: Be Prepared and Compliant

Jim Rumph, WIPFLI, Atlanta, Ga. - Financial institutions (FIs) need to be prepared to continue business and recover from a variety of incidents that could impact operations and service to customers. As FIs outsource more services, they become more dependent on the availability of service providers for day-to-day operations. In addition, cybersecurity threats, like malware and denial-of-service attacks, are threats that need to be considered in business continuity programs. The FFIEC has issued specific guidance (Appendix J) that requires institutions to consider these new threats and dependencies. In this session, we will provide valuable information on how to prepare your institution to survive when disaster strikes. We will also discuss the latest business continuity tools and techniques to develop an actionable and compliant business continuity program. With more than 12 years of experience in technology audit and internal controls consulting, Jim Rumph is a senior manager with WIPFLI.

How to Build a Valuable Incident Response Plan

Jon Waldman, SBS CyberSecurity, Madison, S.D. - Incident response is much more than simply notifying your customers that something bad has happened; it’s planning to fail well... because bad things are going to happen. Organizations must ensure adequate investments in security are made, not only in prevention, but in the detection of threats and effective incident response as well. With cyber attacks continuing to increase with no signs of slowing down, it’s time to sharpen your incident response procedures and improve your plan. Jon Waldman is the EVP information security consulting/president SBS Institute with SBS CyberSecurity, a cybersecurity consulting and audit firm dedicated to making a positive impact on the banking and financial services industry.

Bank Technology and Customer Expectations

Lisa Gold Schier, American Bankers Association, Washington, D.C. - Customer expectations continue to evolve, and the current environment is only accelerating digital access (well, digital and the drive-through). How do bankers define digital transformation and how do you best meet the needs of your customers? In this interactive session, we’ll discuss technology trends and the applicability of these to your bank and market. Lisa Gold Schier is senior vice president of business innovation and technology for the American Bankers Association, where she provides visionary leadership with a focus on evaluating early stage technology companies, fostering bank/fintech partnerships, creating alternate business models and creating a culture of innovation.
