TUESDAY, OCT. 2, 2018

9:00 AM Welcome

9:00 - 10:00 AM Fierce Female Leadership: Dr. Suzi Kalsow,
“What gets talked about in an organization and how it gets talked about determines what will happen. Or won’t happen,” said Susan Scott, founder of Fierce, Inc. This session will be an introduction to the basics of Fierce Conversations training: three transformational ideas, seven principles, coaching conversation, confrontation conversation, team conversation and delegation conversation. “When you think of a fierce conversation, think of passion, integrity, authenticity, collaboration. Think cultural transformation. Think leadership.”

10:00 - 10:30 AM Networking Break

10:30 - 11:30 AM Personal Branding: Laurie Knudson, Independent Contractor, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Personal branding is a 21st century leadership requirement, and if you don’t guide and cultivate it yourself, it will be defined for you. It is not about self-promotion and social media, but rather the journey of defining yourself as a leader. This session will help you define your brand based on your authentic leadership, so you can create the total experience of what people can expect from you.

11:30 - 12:30 PM Self Confidence: Why it’s Important and How to Find It:
What does confidence look like? Perhaps we have an image of someone who exudes confidence or makes us believe they have it all together. Is confidence an important quality and how do you achieve it?

12:30 - 1:15 PM Lunch & Learn: SDBA Opportunities
Did you know that the South Dakota Bankers Association has been around longer than the state of South Dakota? The SDBA was established in 1884 as the professional and trade association for South Dakota’s financial services industry. Learn what the Association has to offer you...and what you may have to offer the Association.

1:15 - 2:00 PM TED Talks

  • Be Bold, Be Brave, Bust Perfectionism: Dr. Ashley Podhradsky, Dakota State University, Madison, S.D.
Women are only 11 percent of the cybersecurity field. We can do better! Fear, uncertainty and doubt can discourage girls from pursing this field. This talk will discuss how girls need to be bold, brave and bust perfectionism to be successful in cybersecurity.
  • What’s Wrong With Them? The Importance of Diversity: Dr. Susan Kalsow, Bank Midwest, Arnolds Park, Iowa
Do you find yourself amazed at times how some people look at the world, work and life the way they do? It just seems wrong! If you often think it, and sometimes say it, this session is for you. We will introduce how The Effectiveness Institute uses people skills training to help us understand ourselves and others better to create a happier and more productive personal and professional life.

2:00 - 3:00 PM Trying Again, and Again, Can Pay Big Dividends: Laurie Stewart, ABA Vice Chairman and President/CEO, Sound Community Bank, Seattle, Wa.
Laurie Stewart will share her story and describe why trying again, and again, can pay big dividends. Her session will also include some practical career tips and traps, as well as the role of advocacy and how it can help be a career enhancement and have a positive impact on the banking industry. At the end of Stewart’s presentation, she hopes attendees will be inspired and empowered, or at the very least have a few amusing moments of connection with other women.
